San Fermo della Battaglia

Just a few kilometres from glory

First introduced to Il Lombardia route in 2004, San Fermo della Battaglia has since become one of the defining elements of the race’s finale in Como. Short but demanding, at around 2.7 km with an average gradient of 7% and sections approaching 10%, the ramp comes when energy reserves are running dangerously low and every acceleration has the potential to prove decisive. Riders such as Paolo Bettini, Philippe Gilbert, Vincenzo Nibali, Jakob Fuglsang and Tadej Pogačar have all launched or completed major attacks on its slopes, turning San Fermo into one of the most recognisable springboards towards the finish line in Como.
