For Remco Evenepoel, the 2025 edition of Il Lombardia ends with yet another strong result: second place behind Tadej Pogačar, in what has now become a true modern cycling classic.
The Belgian once again showed his remarkable consistency in the big one-day races, repeating the same podium finish he achieved at both the World Championships and this season’s European Championships.
A season-defining rivalry
On the slopes of the Passo di Ganda, Pogačar once again made the difference with a decisive attack, while Evenepoel was the only one able to react, holding a relentless pace all the way to the finish.
The duel between Pogačar and Evenepoel continues to write intense, spectacular chapters in modern cycling – with the Slovenian champion coming out on top, but the Belgian always ready to challenge him.
“When Pogačar accelerates, he always manages to make the difference. But for me, it’s a motivation to improve,” said Evenepoel after the finish.
After a year full of prestigious results, Evenepoel ends his season with yet another podium in a Monument Classic. His consistency at the highest level confirms both his talent and determination – allowing him to look ahead to next season with confidence.
