We’ve long run out of words to describe Tadej Pogačar. Thus, this time, as we celebrate his fifth triumph at Il Lombardia (matching Fausto Coppi’s all-time record), we’ll let the numbers and records speak for themselves. As for today’s race, all you need to know is that, right on cue, he attacked on the Passo di Ganda, dropped everyone, and soloed away to Bergamo. Once again, Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) had little to no answer and finished second, while Michael Storer (Tudor) impressed with a solid third place.
With this Il Lombardia 2025 victory, the Slovenian collects his 20th win of the season (25 last year) and his 10th Monument Classic triumph – half of them, five, on the roads of the Classic of the Falling Leaves.
Pogacar, incredible numbers at Il Lombardia 2025
It’s his third Monument win in 2025, a feat achieved in history only by Eddy Merckx (1969, 1971, 1972, 1975). Pogačar has also become the first rider ever to win Il Lombardia twice while wearing the rainbow jersey, and the only one to have claimed both the Tour de France and Il Lombardia in the same season three times (2021, 2024, 2025).
Since 2021, every time he’s stood on the Il Lombardia podium, it’s been on the top step.
His last 15 one-day race victories have all been solo efforts – the last time he won a one-day race in a sprint was at the 2023 Flèche Wallonne, ahead of Mattias Skjelmose and Mikel Landa.
He’s also the first rider to earn five Monument podiums in a single season – a mark untouched since Sean Kelly, who managed four in 1986.
With 10 Monuments to his name at just 27 years and 20 days old, Pogačar is closing in on the only rider who had done better at that age: Eddy Merckx, with 12. The Belgian reached 15 before turning 28. Who knows if Tadej can keep up with the greatest of all time – for now, let’s just enjoy him, because a rider like this might not come around again anytime soon.
What else can we say… have a good off-season, Tadej!
